Urge Bristol City Council to oppose Bristol Airport expansion plans

The motion was amended but otherwise passed unaninmously. The article on this page is included for information...

Read the wording of the final motion.

Bristol's first Green Party councillor Charlie Bolton is proposing a motion at the Council meeting on September 12th. It's vital that this issue is taken seriously by Bristol City Council.

The wording of the proposal is:

"Bristol City Council, in line with its commitment to the Nottingham Declaration which requires 60% cuts in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, recognises that significant expansion of aviation will make this target impossible and therefore requests that the Leader of Council writes to the Airport Authority and other relevant agencies/ bodies expressing grave concern and requesting that every reasonable effort is made to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and that the proposal to expand the Airport is reconsidered because of these concerns.

"The bodies to be contacted include the Department for Transport, North Somerset Council, the Regional Assembly and the South West Regional Development Authority"

Please contact your local councillor to urge him/her to support this proposal.
