These awards are presented at the conference each year to acknowledge the diversity of contributions that people from across the local groups network make to Friends of the Earth.

Nominations are made by local group members and staff, and a prize of £250 is awarded to each local group who wins, or has a member who does. "

The nomination was as follows:

"Campaigning against the proposed expansion of Bristol Airport, the group has formed a key alliance with groups such as CPRE and local residents likely to be affected by the expansion.

"Strategic lobbying has included targeting key MPs, organising public mettings and making well-researched challenges to the draft proposal.

"The group's campaign website has received over 2500 hits this year with over 700 people registering their interest in the campaign.

"The group has also generated great publicity, launching with a media stunt presenting a bill to the airport for the cost of their emissions as well as continued publicity through the distribution of 10000 posters and 5000 leaflets and a mobile billboard campaign van run on biodiesel"
